Here With Us

If you have lived experience with a mobility aid or medical device, you aren’t alone, even though sometimes it can feel that way. We hope to make the world a more accepting, inclusive, and educated place for those that have medical devices "here with us" by publishing a digital anthology built by a community of medical device/mobility aid users.

Here With Us is looking to share your experiences, good and bad, through art, poetry, prose, or multimedia. The goal of the anthology is to have a resource for those of us living with medical devices to feel less alone. We want your true experiences to show through, whether they be good, bad, prideful or shy.

We are looking for submissions of the following mediums:

  • Poetry or Prose

  • Lyrical Music

  • Photography

  • Collage or multimedia pieces

  • Scanned paintings, drawings, watercolor, digital art or artwork

  • 3D pieces (adornments to medical devices/handmade mobility device decorations)

  • Letters to a younger self or someone else living with a medical device

The submissions can utilize the these optional guiding questions:

  • How has wearing a medical device/using a mobility aid made you feel?

  • How do you experience your medical device/mobility aid?

After collecting submissions over several months, we will publish the anthology digitally and distribute the publication to disability studies programs, clinics, and nonprofits. This anthology is a place to share true experiences, and will hopefully be a tool for community members, educators, and youth to see themselves.

We are receiving submissions until our tentative deadline: June 1st, 2026.
