Symbolism of Magill
the White Dove

In 2016, Jessica King had lost her great-grandmother, Dorothy King. At the funeral, doves were released to symbolize her departure, and a white feather had fallen onto Jessica's forehead like a farewell kiss. Six years later in 2022, Jessica adopted the stage name White Dove Poet to honor Dorothy's memory. For many months, she used this name when participating in spoken word events and sharing creative works online.

As she developed what would become White Dove Disability Advocacy in 2024, Jessica wanted to build an organization that reflected the lessons, morals, and values that Dorothy taught her. Knowing this mission was bigger than herself, she "gifted" the White Dove name to the organization and adopted NeuroSunflower for herself.

The logo was commissioned by Jessica and produced by digital artist Snapdragon Williams, a fellow disabled student at California State University, Long Beach. The goal of the design was to incorporate elements of the Disability Pride colors, the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, and the beloved white dove. The final result is the logo that is used today: a dove with a white body and white wings, with feathers organized in disability pride colors, and a sunflower in its beak. The dove is in flight, not only representing Dorothy's departure but also the flight of disability pride reaching across disabled communities.

In 2026, which the official operations starting, Jessica consulted Snapdragon on "gifting" a name to the dove. The name was quickly found and agreed upon: Magill, in recognition of Ann Magill and her contribution to disability inclusion by designing the Disability Pride Flag.

Digital Artist and Writer
I’ve been drawing my whole life, but I got serious about it around 2016 when I started taking art classes and trying to put down on paper all the ideas I had swimming around in my head. It’s been a tough journey since then, but I find such joy in creating stories and pieces that people like and can be inspired by that it’s made it all worth it. My long term goal is to be a showrunner and to publish stories that show different perspectives than the ones we often see in media.
